Look for rooms in Enschede
If you live in Enschede, you will be closer to the shops and pubs. There are even houses on the Oude Markt. Enschede is roughly a 15 minute bike ride to the campus.
Many students at the University and at the Hogeschool live in the city. Generally, 4 to 6 students live in the student houses in the city. Some houses and flats have similar rooms, but most don't. The rooms can vary greatly in location, size, comfort and price.
One of the differences between living in the city and on campus is that in the city you will have neighbors of all types, whereas on campus most, if not all, of your neighbors will be students.
Many students find it advantageous to be able to bike home in a short time after going out. Most of the student houses lie within 5 minutes biking from the Centrum. Therefore, going out can be easy in the 'best student city in Holland.' Around the Oude Markt you will find many café's where you can go out (and sit at one of the lovely terraces in the warmer weather).
One possible disadvantage in living in the city is that you are farther from the campus. It will take you 15 to 20 minutes to bike from the Centrum to the campus. If you don't wish to bike, you can always take the bus, which is very well connected and travels throughout the entire campus

Campus
Look for rooms on the campus
Acasa has on the campus more than 2,000 student housing units with shared living areas, single rooms and apartments. Living on campus places you very close to the faculty buildings, sport and cultural facilities, club facilities, and all other amenities of the University. Biking to the Centrum of Enschede will take you about 20 minutes.
In order to receive an invitaion to find a room on campus, you need to be registered with Acasa. This registration is free. As soon as you are registered, you will eventually, depending on your place on the list, be able to obtain a room. Not registered? Go here to register online.
Some people find it a disadvantage that only students live on campus. You will not have many 'tukkers' as neighbors. If you like to shop and go out in the Centrum, and you do not like to bike, you will find it difficult to live on campus, as the Centrum lies 15 minutes by bike from campus. If, however, you like to go to the city during the day or in the evenings, you will find excellent bus connections to and from campus.

Hengelo
Look for rooms in Hengelo
Although most of the students from the University and the Hogeschool live in Enschede, many choose to live in Hengelo. You can bike to the campus in about 20 minutes, and to the Centrum of Enschede in 30 minutes. If you like to go out with your classmates, you may find quickly that the distance is disadvantageous. However, Hengelo does have numerous places to go out which students frequent.
