To measure activism at the University of Twente the Student Union has an annual activism monitor. This monitor started with a zero-measurement in 2008. These annual measurements will further stimulate and support activism.
In 2009 the Activism Monitor was held for the second time.
Fun and enthusiasm are the most important reasons for students to be active. Other important reasons to become active are personal development, being involved with the organization, building-up social contacts and improving your CV. The majority of active students see various advantages of being active, such as improved chances on the business market and gaining experience and skills.
Students preferably are approached personally for a committee or a board, which shows that appreciation of qualities is a high priority for activism.
At the beginning of 2008 nearly 1400 students filled in the activism monitor of the Student Union.
Almost all active students are a member of a study association; just over half is member of a sport association. Within these two umbrella organizations most students are also active. Almost a quarter of the active students is active at a second student organization, 5% of all active students is even active in a third organization.
