House rules

Specific agreements concerning the use of rental rooms are described in the rental contract between the tenant and the landlord.

The general house rules are described below.

General

  • Users of the Bastille are to follow the caretaker’s instructions.
  • The building is to be used in an orderly and tidy manner.
  • Rubbish is to be disposed of separately in the appropriate rubbish bins.
  • Malfunctions, technical problems, complaints and requests should be reported to the Facility Service Centre’s desk immediately. (Call 6703 or e-mail servicedesk.bastille@fb.utwente.nl).
  • Bikes should be parked in the bike stands whenever possible.
  • Announcements may only be posted on designated notice boards. Announcements posted elsewhere will be removed.
  • It is not permitted to place outside notice boards or signs in general areas.

Fire safety / calamities

  • In case of an emergency warn the caretaker or call 2222.
  • In case of a calamity follow the calamity plan (this will be published on this website as soon as it has been drawn up).
  • Fire safety will be checked several times a year by the fire brigade and the fire insurance company.
  • Due to fire hazard, the following electrical devices are prohibited inside the rooms: kettles, coffeemakers, microwaves and ovens. There are general facilities available that may be used by everybody.
  • Areas of circulation and emergency exits should be kept free for safety reasons.
  • There is a collective in-house emergency team (BHV) composed of residents of the Bastille, the sports centre and the Vrijhof. Coordination is organised by the landlord.
  • The caretaker regularly checks if everything is all right.

Damage

  • Whenever possible, damage to common rooms and/or their inventory will be recovered from the person who caused the damage or the organizer of the event in which the perpetrator participated.
  • Should a person be caught in the act of vandalism he/she will be taken in and handed over to the campus guard (2134).

Security

  • We do our utmost best to prevent theft and keep out any trespassers. The student caretaker and the UT security service keep an eye on what goes on in the building.
  • The security service will regularly check the building outside of opening hours. Anybody found in the building who doesn’t belong there will be penalized.
  • In case of any problems you may contact security 24 hours a day (2134). They will try to solve the problem.
  • Tenants are responsible for the security of their own rooms. Each room can be locked. Extra security is available at an additional cost to the tenant and should be discussed with the landlord first.
  • Tenants are responsible for the room keys themselves. If all keys aren’t returned after a rental period, the locks will be replaced at the expense of the tenant.
  • A caretaker will always be present during events as well as extra security should this be necessary.
  • Should one require access to a certain room the key can be obtained from the caretaker who will check if the person in question is authorized to access that room.
